JAPANESE NAKED MAN FESTIVAL

An inclusive friendly branding that looked to incorporate the brotherhood and open-hearted nature of the Hadaka Matsuri Festival in Japan.

The design was based around the most famous festival held at Saidaiji Temple in Okayama, where the Hadaka Matsuri originated. Every year, over 9,000 men participate in the chance to win the luck of the gods for an entire year by battling each other for magic sticks.

They chant ‘WASSHOI, WASSHOI, WASSHOI” in unison which roughly translates somewhere in between ‘heave – ho’ and ‘to stay with harmony’. The logo mark links together to represent the pattern of the 9,000 festival entrants and the incredible human event.

A Risograph print of the logo in Red and Blue can be purchased via the Chariso Press. All sales from this print go to the Maggies Cancer Charity.
